Sanjay (36) had decided to retire from cricket following his time with Stenhousemuir but with GCC's former Scotland ODI keeper Alec Davies suffering a hand injury and likely to miss a large chunk of the season; he's agreed to make a swift return and will make his debut behind the stumps for the Glens in our match versus RH Costorphine on Saturday.
Club captain Greig Hopcroft commented; "It's all happened so quickly but the bottom line is we're delighted to have a new wicket keeper at the club who's able to slot right in to our 1st XI. As a batsman and keeper Sanjay has played all of his club cricket at this level so there was never any doubt he'd be welcome addition if he was prepared to shelve his retirement plans for a while. We're looking forward to seeing him back in action come Saturday afternoon."
Sanjay stated' "I had genuinely decided the time was right to reclaim my Saturday afternoons, I loved my time with Stenhousemuir CC and would like to thank everyone at The Tryst for making me so welcome. I knew a few of the Glenrothes lads quite well already and when I heard about the injury to Alec Davies it seemed like an ideal opportunity to get involved with a club that seems to be on a bit of an upward curve. My initial plan was to thank GCC for their interest but the natural enthusiasm I've picked up since speaking to the guys about coming on board appealed to my competitive nature. I'm looking forward to training with the guys on Thursday and making my debut on Saturday".
