Many thanks to everyone who made it along to the recent combined Awards and Fundraising Night at the Reya, to help us celebrate the cricket memories we all made throughout the 2024 season.
A massive well done goes to the winners of our awards, but the contributions made by everyone throughout the season both on and off the field was just as important!
1st XI BATTER of the year - Sufyan Ahmad
Congratulations to Sufyan Ahmad who won the 1st XI Batter of the Year.
Sufyan showed great growth and maturity in his batting throughout the 2024 season, balancing his natural aggression with an understanding in how to better pace his innings.
He scored 709 runs in the league, at an average of 44.3 with a fantastic high score of 145 (one of two league centuries for the season).
There were other exceptional contributions from others also, with a century to Nigam Panwar (354 runs @ 35.4, 119* high score) and Govind Singh falling agonisingly short of a century at Arbroath (433 runs @ 33.3, 98 highest score). The ever classy Mayank Sautiyal was second top run scorer (480 runs @ 40, 67* high score).
Congratulations to Sufyan, you really were a game changer!
1st XI BOWLER of the year - Bimal Nalupurrakal Balan
Congratulations to Bimal Nalupurrakal Balan who won the 1st XI Bowler of the Year.
Despite the run-up getting shorter Bimal continued to bowl brisk spells throughout the season, intermixed with the occasional off-spin spell also!
In SPCU Division 1, Bimal took 18 wickets at 30.8 - just marginally ahead of Mayank Sautiyal and Qasim Ahmed. Though it would more often be Bimal to look the most threatening, and would definitely have won the award for most edges just missed for the season!
Well done Bimal, your terrorising of batters was almost matched by the pain felt by scorers in spelling your name.
1st XI PLAYER of the year - Mayank Sautiyal
There were a number of strong performances by many across the season, though the one player you would always look to in the expectation of making a difference across all aspects of the game was undoubtedly Mayank Sautiyal.
A classy batter with the ability to hit the ball the proverbial mile also, Mayank scored 480 runs at an average of 40 - fourth in the list of all players in the SPCU Division 1. He was Mr Consistent with eight scores of 30 runs and above, though didn't push on to the really big score he would have wanted (high score 67*).
He narrowly missed out on the club's 1st XI bowling prize, having taken 18 wickets at 31.6, though he was too good for some batters and unlucky to see dropped catches against others.
Well done Mayank, we're lucky to have you at the club and your high standards give other players something to aspire to - perhaps not in your preference for wearing low-height trainer socks whilst batting though!
1st XI CAPTAINS PLAYER of the year - Govind Singh
Congratulations to Govind Singh who won the 1st XI Captain's Player of the Year.
Govind was a revelation in his first season with Glenrothes, with strong performances throughout the season underpinned by a never-ending smile!
A hugely impressive 433 runs at 33.3 (7th in the SPCU Division 1 standings), Govind was unlucky to miss out on a century at Arbroath 2s falling for 98.
His loopy spinners were also on show through the season, claiming 7 wickets at 30.1 and he also took 5 catches.
A massive well done Govind, a hugely impressive season and one not just appreciated by your skipper but everyone else in the club too.
2nd XI BATTER of the year - Muhammad Tayyiub
Congratulations to young Muhammad Tayyiub who won the 2nd XI Batter of the Year.
Muhammad was the top-order rock around which the 2nd XI batting was based. Whilst he didn't quite have the luck he deserved, his 149 runs at an average of 13.6 with a high score of 38 always instilled confidence in those batting around him.
When called up to the 1st XI, Muhammad showed his class scoring 34 in his one league innings in Division 1. He also extended this form across to junior representative cricket as he scored 262 runs at an average of 52.4 with Fife Under 16s and Under 18s teams with a high score of 64 against Dundee & Angus U16s.
Skipper Paul Culleton and young Ben Krzyzanowski chipped in regularly, with high scores of 40 and 39* respectively. Young Karthik Coppisetty gave a glimpse of what could have been if we could have got him out more on the cricket field, with the 2nd XI's only 50 of the season.
Well done Muhammad, we can't wait to see more from you in your cricketing journey.
2nd XI BOWLER of the year - Ben Krzyzanowski
Congratulations to young Ben Krzyzanowski who won the 2nd XI Bowler of the Year.
Having impressed in the 2023 season in the 1st XI, Ben was asked to focus on 2nd XI cricket in 2024 with the task of leading the bowling attack and learning from the responsibility.
He returned an impressive 16 wickets at an average of 18.8, but could have taken so much more. He did though show his continued progress when stepping up to the 1st XI, for example being leading wicket-taker in the T20 cup competitions with five wickets at 8.6.
Like many quick bowlers, he also fancies himself as a batter and will have been delighted to hit his first half-century in the Fife Under 16s victory against Forth Valley Under 16s.
There were other youngsters making great progress in the 2nd XI in the 2024 season, including Muhammad Tayyiub (14 wickets at 16.1), Rahman Tawheedi (9 wickets at 25.2) and Wahab Tawheedi (7 wickets at 38.6). Honorary junior (he was always picked with the kids in training warm-ups, they love him) was Kevin Le Roux (11 wickets at 20.1). Best return of the season was Reyon Thomas with 4 for 18 at Strathmore 2s, and excellent spells also bowled through the year by the really young 'uns Joe Myles and Archie Taylor.
Well done Ben, though you maybe want to think about getting a haircut to get a more streamlined run-up!
2nd XI PLAYER of the year - Muhammad Tayyiub
Congratulations to young Muhammad Tayyiub who won the 2nd XI Player of the Year.
Muhammad was a standout performer, leading the batting (149 runs at 13.6), pushing his good pal Ben close in the bowling (14 wickets at 16.1) and repeating the battle with Ben in the field also (7 catches and 1 run out).
His performances were strong and inspiring throughout the season, though just as impressive was his support to skipper Paul Culleton in providing encouragement to others and thinking and suggesting well on strategic decisions.
Well done Muhammad, we are sure the confidence you will have taken from this season will help you push on and hopefully cement a place in the 1st XI going forward!
2nd XI CAPTAINS PLAYER of the year - Wahab Tawheedi
Congratulations to young Wahab Tawheedi who won the 2nd XI Captain's Player of the Year at our recent awards night.
A reluctant opener, Wahab battled hard through the season and more often than not "made a start" for his skipper, particularly against the stronger teams from the top-half of the league.
If Wahab lacked some confidence with his batting, the same couldn't be said for his bowling as he was always keen to get involved and make a difference. With the leg-spinner his stock ball, Wahab showed good variations and more often than not bowled a full attacking length. He got less rewards than he deserved, but 7 wickets at 38.6 was nonetheless impressive.
He also had one other dangerous weapon - an absolute bullet arm which saved a number of runs and put pressure on batters.
Well done Wahab, a great season! Thanks also to you brother Rahman for picking up your award and for his own strong season (92 runs at 8.4, and 9 wickets at 25.2).
Maureen Ramsay CLUB PERSON of the year - Kevin Le Roux
Congratulations to Kevin Le Roux who was the winner of the Maureen Ramsay Club Person of the Year.
This award recognises that whilst on-field performances are important, it's the all-round contribution people provide to the club off the field also which really makes a difference.
Kevin was a very deserving winner of this award, an ever-present at pretty much every task and event needed!
He took 16 wickets at 25.8 for both senior teams, and his high score of 30 showed his reluctant batter approach could be pushed further. He was also a strong advocate for post-match socialising and building stronger connections between all the players.
Kevin was a great help in supporting junior coaching with the Gladiators, and was pretty much always first to arrive (sometimes the only to arrive) when the asks for grounds maintenance support went out.
We also can't lose sight of his focus on healthy eating when providing "teas for two" with a regular supply of fruit and pancakes (ok, slightly healthier).
He also undertakes one of the most critical roles within the club (Treasurer) and picked up the pennies very well to continue to strengthen our internal processes and look for other opportunities for revenue growth.
A huge thanks from the club for everything you do Kevin - we really hope you continue to turn down the transfer offers from other local clubs!
Well done to all our winners, but it's an even bigger well done to the efforts shown by every player and member across the 2024 season.
