Glenrothes Cricket Club 1st XI travelled to Arbroath on Saturday to play the home teams 2nd XI in the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union Division (SPCU) Division 1.
In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, Arbroath won the toss and asked Glenrothes to bat first - before skittling Glenrothes all out for 69 on the way to an easy victory.
Arbroath again won the toss and again asked Glenrothes to bat first, and with the loss of three early wickets to Luke Hayes it was looking ominous for Glenrothes.
It was to be Govind Singh to step up and calm things though, batting sensibly in partnership with Adeel Ali.
Singh though was to agonisingly fall short of a deserved century, as he snicked one behind off the bowling of David Stow to be caught by wicket-keeper Angus Fraser for 98.
With two other quick wickets following, it was left to Mayank Sautiyal (51*) and skipper Qasim Ahmad (66*) to take advantage of some wayward bowling by the young Arbroath team in the closing overs to enable Glenrothes to post 320 for six in 45 overs.
Arbroath openers Mark Edwards and young keeper Fraser showed there were no batting demons in the pitch and had shared a century opening partnership.
It was to be a drinks break and the introduction of Singh to make the difference as Fraser was soon bowled for 28.
With Edwards having brought up his own century, which was well received by the home crowd and the Glenrothes players, Singh was to get his revenge as tempted one more big hit only to see Edwards (103) miss the ball and Sufyan Ahmed complete the stumping.
From there, the young Arbroath batters were able to score with little problem but could not keep up with the required run rate.
McKinlay Hogg (32) following a mix up with his batting partner was to be run out by Bimal Nalupurakkal Balan for 32 and young Rayaan Shahid was to take his first 1st XI wicket for Glenrothes as Hayes (20) was caught at deep square by Sautiyal.
With Arbroath eventually finishing on 226 for 4 it was to be a win by 54 runs for Glenrothes.
