3. Volunteers

Background

Volunteering is about making a difference for others through sharing skills and knowledge, in providing positive support and motivation and, in the context of the Glenrothes Gladiators, enabling many people (young and old) to unlock a passion and love for cricket through supporting healthy lives, by building a culture of fun, enjoyment and respect and empowering young people to be the best they can be.

Our volunteers commit many hours of direct coaching, personal development and administrative duties in delivering cricket and multi-sports activities as part of the Gladiators programme and through widening awareness and increasing participation across the wider cricket community. We are hugely appreciative of the entirely voluntary support they provide and the positivity they bring to help the Gladiators progress within a continuous improvement journey.

Volunteer Policy

Our Volunteer Policy sets out why volunteering is important, how we support volunteers, making sure everyone is clear about what voluntary roles we need filled through having formal role descriptions, ensuring there are appropriate support mechanisms in place so they know what is expected of them and what help they can get for their own development.

Our Volunteer Induction Checklist provides the framework we use for having a structured conversation with new volunteers. This provides an overview of the aims of the Gladiators and other issues such as health and safety etc. The checklist is based on good practice as recommended by Volunteer Scotland.

We really appreciate the contribution all volunteers make whilst volunteering with us. To help us to continue to improve the experience for future volunteers, we ask that a Volunteer Exit Interview is held to gather feedback. This can be done by self-completion of a questionnaire or ideally as a conversation with one of our volunteer leaders.

In February 2021, we released our thought-piece on what volunteering really means for us and how we aim to build an engaged, inclusive and enthusiastic volunteer support culture within the Glenrothes Gladiators.
